Out Tonight

Hopefully I will be updating more regularly from here on out. Honestly though, I make no promises. I want to though; I really do.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a mini mix to get your weekend started right.

"Get Dressed" - Midnight Star
I like this song, and I love this album. Headlines by Midnight Star, 1986. was the sixth and final studio release featuring the Calloway brothers (two of the groups founding members). While "Get Dressed" was not one of the three singles from the album, I find it reminiscent of 1999 era Prince, thus an absolute gem in my opinion. Strangely enough some of the members of Midnight Star would go on to write songs for Toni Braxton including two duets with Babyface (of La Face Records see below)

"Body Talk" - Deele
Released in 1984 this track was featured in the pilot episode of the television show Miami Vice. The original lineup (and the lineup featured in "Body Talk") included members L.A. Reid and Babyface Edmonds who would later go on to start the Atlanta based La Face Records who released such artists as TLC, Goodie Mob, and OutKast.

"Let's Dance (Make Your Body Move)" - West Street Mob

     Shake, Your Pants and Dance

JAM, I know you Got the Groove
Now let me see your body move

     Shake, Make your body move

Let's dance I know you got the fever
Let's dance come on and get down

     Make noise, Be Seen
Party People let me hear you scream

Work that body, Work that body
Make sure you don't hurt no body

With Lyrics like this, I feel like little explanation is needed.

"Prove It to Me" - New Experience
Released in 1984, and I could find no other information about this track. Simply a small blip on the musical radar. I thought it was a nice track to finish the mix off with. You've gotten dressed, made your body talk, danced it out, and now at the end of the night it's time to see who matters; or something like that.

anyways, here is the mix...

June Mix

Here's a little mix I threw together for June. Most of the tracks are from the dollar bins. Hope you enjoy it. It has a bit of everything from T-Pain to Society of Soul to Toni Braxton to Krazy Bone.

"Thank You For One More Day" and "Come Over Here" - The Angelic Gospel Singers

Found this the other day; the cover immediately jumped out at me. The Person on the right, Josephine I believe, looks absolutely terrified. She is the only one not looking at the camera, and seems to be on the verge of tears.

With a little further research about this track, I learned that The Angelic Gospel Singers were the longest continuos recording and preforming female lead gospel group in the US. Their first album was released in 1961 and their final in 2000. This album Margret, Josephine, and Bernice was released in 1978.

"Thank You for One More Day" is a pretty great up tempo track. Im not sure exactly what jumped out about it to me, but I think it's pretty great. The second track i'll share from this album is "Come Over Here". This is the first song off of the album, and is much slower soulful than "Thank You for One More day". The instrumental intro, especially the first few notes on the piano, establishes the perfect mood for the vocals that follow.

The Dance EP

Here's the second track from a record I found the other day. It has no identification marks other than the "The Dance EP" hand stamped on the inner ring, and 'DF-003 A' / 'DF-003 B' etched in the runout. It's a pretty solid 90's techno track that feature such stellar lyrics as...

take me away
come with me to the dance floor
you and me, cause that's what it's for
show me now what it is
we got to be doin'
and the music and the house is SO groovin...

I wanna dance the night away
it's just a party, so now come with me

“Boogie Town” - FLB (Fat Larry’s Band)

I like dollar records. I enjoy finding the gems and jams amongst what people have decided have no value. My plan for this site is share a few of the things that I find. At this point, I have no intention to keep the songs posted restricted to a specific genre; the only connection between them will be that I have paid no more than a dollar or two for them. Hope you enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first track is “Boogie Town” the A side from the Boogie Town 12”  by FLB. This is a pretty fun electronic disco track from 1978 that features some killer vocoder. It’s definitely a summer jammer.
